For Immediate Release                                                                                                                                                                                                                 TAMESIDE FLIES HIGH: HOSPITAL CHOSEN TO REPRESENT THE NHS ON COMMONWEALTH DAY

Tameside Hospital has been chosen to fly the flag at 2pm this Monday (March 9), on behalf of the NHS,to acknowledge the diverse and different cultures represented within its 2,600 staff and volunteers as part of the Commonwealth Day 2015 celebrations.

The hospital will join more than 730 organisations from destinations across the world. Each has been sent a message of goodwill from HM The Queen, who is Head of the Commonwealth, and all will fly the Commonwealth flag as a collective expression of commitment and appreciation of the common values the institution upholds.

Tameside’s Chief Executive Karen James says she is both delighted and honoured the hospital has been chosen, and believes it a great opportunity to recognise the huge contribution colleagues from different ethnic backgrounds and beliefs make every day towards the successful running of patient services and care.

She explains: “ The Commonwealth is a collective of 53 different countries and more than a third of them are represented by our staff and volunteers who, as first or second generation citizens, have chosen to bring their skills and expertise to this hospital. Many work as doctors and nurses, as support workers and others in our translation and interpretation services. Today we recognise and celebrate all the work they do for the people of Tameside.”                                                                                                                                                                                                                         A personal message from His Excellency Kamalesh Sharma, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth – and a specially written Commonwealth Affirmation – will be read out at ceremony, which will take placein the hospital grounds, before the raising of the Commonwealth Flag, at 2pm, by staff representatives. Difficulty and Need

Since we have begun in 2005, our openness and accessibility has meant our beneficiaries have expanded from not just individuals from West Africa but now include people from other parts of Africa, E.U and England. Our services are open to everyone. Anyone who needs support or help can come to us, regardless of race, religion or background. From feedback from members, they have told are nervous and wary of entering into mainstream office buildings to access support, fear of unknown, embarrassment, confusion and possible recrimination. By working with agencies and providing a welcoming accessible building where members feel comfortable in entering will help break down these barriers.

WAD is now seeking for a PLACE where to Locate our Community in Tameside and if anyone have available place or room suitable for office use and willing to help should not hesitated to contact WAD on :
